Dr. Than graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Florida in 2006. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the Alpert Medical School of Brown University in 2011. Following medical school, he completed a rigorous residency in General Surgery at Stanford University Medical Center, where he also served as Administrative Chief Resident. His postgraduate training includes a Clinical Fellowship in Abdominal Multi-Organ Transplantation at Stanford University.

Dr. Than’s professional journey includes key roles as a Clinical Instructor in Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. He has been a part of numerous transplant programs, including at the University of California, Davis, where he played a pivotal role in launching the liver transplant program. In his current role at UC San Diego Health, Dr. Than is an attending surgeon specializing in abdominal organ transplantation, serving both adult and pediatric patients. His dedication to advancing surgical techniques and patient care is reflected in his work with Lifesharing, Rady Children’s Hospital, and various donor networks.
