Author Profile
Early Academic Pursuits
Dr. N'Douffou Konan Sylvain Gnamien's academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Life and Earth Sciences from Félix Houphouët-Boigny University in Côte d'Ivoire in August 2006. He further pursued his studies, earning a Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences in December 2013. Building upon this foundation, he achieved a Master's degree in Physical Sciences in November 2015, specializing in Energy, Climate, and Environment. During this period, he conducted an internship at the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics and Fluid Mechanics (LAPAMF), focusing on inventories of greenhouse gas emissions in Côte d'Ivoire from 1990 to 2014 in the "energy" sector.
In January 2016, N'Douffou Konan Sylvain Gnamien continued his academic pursuit with a Ph.D. in Physics from Félix Houphouët-Boigny University, specializing in the Physics-Chemistry of the Atmosphere. His doctoral research focused on the characterization of particulate pollution (PM10 and PM2.5) in Abidjan and Korhogo (Côte d'Ivoire) and its impact on population health. This research laid the groundwork for his future contributions to atmospheric sciences.
As part of his academic journey, in September 2022, Gnamien engaged in a two-month research internship at the Research Applications Laboratory (RAL) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)/University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, USA.
Professional Endeavors
Since completing his academic journey, Dr. N'Douffou Konan Sylvain Gnamien has been actively involved in various professional endeavors. Notably, he has been a Researcher in Atmospheric Sciences at the Laboratory of Material, Environmental and Solar Energy Sciences (LASMES) of Félix Houphouët-Boigny University (UFHB), Abidjan – Côte d'Ivoire since October 2022.
His contributions extend to serving as a National Climate Change Consultant for the revision of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in the waste sector in Côte d'Ivoire from 2020 to 2021. Furthermore, he worked as a National consultant responsible for conducting an analytical study of Tier 2 emission factors in the Energy sector/IPCC 1.B and 1.C from June 2022 to November 2022 on behalf of the National Climate Change Programme of Côte d'Ivoire (PLCC).
Contributions and Research Focus On Sciences Atmosphériques
Dr. N'Douffou Konan Sylvain Gnamien's expertise lies in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, energy planning, emissions calculation, and the development and evaluation of air pollutant emission reduction scenarios using technical software such as LEAP-IBC, EX-ACT Value Chain, and IPCC guidelines. His research has significantly contributed to the understanding of aerosol and air quality in urban areas of Côte d'Ivoire, particularly in Abidjan and Korhogo.
His scientific publications, including works on the chemical characterization of urban aerosols, particulate pollution during the dry season, and African anthropogenic emissions inventory, reflect his commitment to advancing knowledge in atmospheric sciences.
